Facing a must-win situation in Sunday’s Chase for the Sprint Cup Eliminator Round finale at Phoenix International Raceway, Kevin Harvick and his No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing went back to what worked so well for them at PIR in the spring.
And what do you know – it worked again.
“We were really fortunate to have a really good baseline setup from the first race this year,” Harvick said to NASCAR AMERICA’s Kelli Stavast after winning on Sunday and earning the automatic bid to next weekend’s Sprint Cup Championship Race.
“Our cars have gotten better and our engines have gotten better, but basically, the same stuff we ran in the first race was the same stuff we ran here with just some minor tweaks and changes here and there.
“I’m just really proud of [crew chief] Rodney Childers] and all the guys on this team…Everybody’s just put in a great effort and to win ourselves in – we got the experience out of the way for next week. It’s like racing with your back against the wall, you’re one-and-done, make it happen.”
