Gary Paffett will end his relationship with McLaren after an eight-year run dating to 2006 at the end of the season. Paffett has been an integral part of the team as a test and reserve driver, although he’s never made a single Grand Prix start.
With McLaren’s impending switch from Mercedes to Honda, Paffett will remain with the former engine manufacturer in DTM.
“I’ve loved working for McLaren and hope my feedback and input over the years has been beneficial,” Paffett wrote on his website. “The engineers I’ve worked with have been kind enough to say that it has. I have many friends at McLaren, and I wish all of them the very best of luck for the future. Fingers crossed for a McLaren grand prix win or two next year!”
McLaren’s current reserve driver, Belgian GP2 ace Stoffel Vandoorne, is expected to remain in the frame longer term for the team, as he has no manufacturer ties.
