Gutierrez targeting F1 reserve role at a top team in 2015

ABU DHABI – Esteban Gutierrez has said that he is still working on a number of options to remain in Formula 1 in 2015 following his departure from Sauber, with a test role at a bigger team on the cards for the Mexican.

Sauber will race with Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson in 2015, leaving both Gutierrez and teammate Adrian Sutil out in the cold. Although Sutil is still contesting his contract with Sauber, Gutierrez is looking to the future and feels confident he will be in F1 next season.

When asked by MotorSportsTalk if he knew where he would be driving in 2015, Gutierrez said: “No I don’t know that.

“I heard there was this rumor with Lotus. We knew about the situation with Romain [Grosjean]. It was something that was not a real option, but we knew that. On the other hand, I’ve been working on other things.

“As I’ve said before, it’s a risky direction, but I think it could be a good one for the future. Still not guaranteed, still working on it, so hopefully that comes off soon, and we can share this with you guys.

“I have my goals in Formula 1, but I’m willing to do anything that is possible or impossible to achieve my dreams.”

Gutierrez confirmed that he is focusing on taking up a reserve role with a bigger team in 2015 which could possibly allow him to move into a race-seat in the future.

“I’m looking for a reserve/test driver [role] in a top team, with a plan for the future,” he said. “An option that I have includes [Friday practice runs] and some other interesting things, so I hope I can share those with you soon.

“I’m working on it. I can be quite sure that you will see me around here.”
