Post-race fights in NASCAR Chase joked about during Eagles-Titans skirmish

This year’s NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup was juiced up along the way by a pair of post-race brawls at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway that brought in additional mainstream attention.

Whether it’s good or bad that it took fights between haulers and on pit road to attract that attention, I’ll leave up to you.

But those chaotic images of Brad Keselowski getting headlocked by Matt Kenseth in Charlotte and then Keselowski and Jeff Gordon getting into a scrap in Fort Worth are still resonating, even though some time has passed.

Case in point: During today’s National Football League contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans, a member of the Titans secondary proceeded to level a Eagles receiver over the middle.

That touched off a brief skirmish between the two sides, causing play-by-play man Greg Gumbel to say, “Easy, guys, this isn’t a NASCAR race.” Jay Busbee from our digital partner, Yahoo Sports, has the clip.

We’ve heard of NFL defensive packages that have been dubbed “NASCAR” (the New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks, and Green Bay Packers have used the name in recent years), but this is certainly a new link between the two leagues.

FYI, the Eagles won, 43-24. Head over to ProFootballTalk for more on that.
