Vettel and Ricciardo to start Abu Dhabi GP from pit lane

ABU DHABI – Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo will start today’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from the pit lane after parc ferme conditions were broken by Red Bull last night following their exclusion from qualifying.

After finishing fifth and sixth in the session on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, Vettel and Ricciardo’s cars were called into question by the FIA technical delegate after the front wing was found to flex too much.

Despite a protest from the team, the stewards deemed the cars to be illegal, excluding them from the final session.

In order to make the cars legal again, Red Bull had to break parc ferme conditions, meaning that both drivers will now be forced to start the race from the pit lane.

“Although the team carried out work with the approval of the technical delegate, parts have been replaced on the cars that are different to those originally used,” a statement from the stewards reads.

Red Bull did accept the stewards’ decision to exclude its cars from qualifying, but said that it felt “singled out”, believing that “it is clear that other teams are interpreting the rules in a similar fashion.”
