Simon Pagenaud’s Ayrton Senna tribute helmet to be auctioned off

One of IndyCar’s most special moments this year came with the announcement Simon Pagenaud would be running an Ayrton Senna tribute helmet at this year’s Indianapolis 500.

Pagenaud will now auction the commemorative Senna helmet off to benefit the Ayrton Senna Institute, which promotes children’s literacy efforts.

He finished 12th wearing the helmet this year in the 500, coming up short of a potential month of May double after winning the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

The auction info is listed here.

Here’s a video of Pagenaud paying tribute to his racing hero. As it wound up, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Pagenaud to wear the helmet. The longtime Honda driver is shifting to Chevrolet-powered Team Penske in 2015.
