While James Hinchcliffe was able to use his first day of testing with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports to get integrated to the team, three other GP2 veterans used their days at Sebring to audition for what looks to be an open seat alongside the Canadian for the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Davide Valsecchi, Stefano Coletti and Rodolfo Gonzalez all had a crack in one of the SPM Hondas. The test was Valsecchi and Coletti’s first, and Gonzalez’s third this year.
Here’s a quick social roundup of their posts:
The second SPM seat is one of the most coveted seats remaining for the 2015 IndyCar season, considering it is a for sure guaranteed seat (unlike Andretti Autosport’s fourth, which is very likely but not 100 percent locked in).
At least some amount of budget will be needed to fill the seat, though.
Valsecchi and Coletti have impressed much more than Gonzalez in GP2. Gonzalez could well be in line to land somewhere on the grid given his available funding.
