This is a great bit of crossover that covers several key business aspects: Simon Pagenaud and the rest of the Team Penske Verizon IndyCar Series drivers will be at this year’s Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Ariz. with Verizon.
This will be the Frenchman’s first trip to a Super Bowl. Pagenaud has joined Team Penske this offseason, and this is already an off-track benefit of that.
Why does this matter? Verizon is, of course, the IndyCar Series title sponsor. It’s the Team Penske sponsor of 2014 series champion Will Power over the full season, and additionally for the other two Penske drivers, Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves in part-time roles.
Verizon also is a major sponsor for the National Football League. This year’s Super Bowl happens to be February 1 on NBC.
And with NBCSN as one of IndyCar’s two TV partners – the only one that can, at the moment, create potential cross-promotion ahead of the IndyCar season itself in a Super Bowl-type setting – this is nothing but a positive development for all parties.
Ideally, we’d love to see some sort of IndyCar promo during the pregame TV buildup if possible.
If not, Pagenaud, Castroneves, Power and Montoya will certainly be able to use Verizon technology from the game itself to provide a look at the setting.
It’s cool news, and speaks kindly to what Verizon can offer on a broader scope beyond the barriers of just the IndyCar Series itself. This was not possible at last year’s Super Bowl, since Verizon had not been confirmed yet as title sponsor.
