With the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross season expected to be one of the more wide-open seasons in recent memory, without stars such as Ryan Villopoto (headed to Europe) and James Stewart (suspended by FIM) out of the field, Ken Roczen opened the year in Anaheim with a dominant performance.
The rider of the No. 94 Suzuki jumped out to the lead with a first lap pass of Andrew Short, and never looked back en route to his third career win. It’s his first though in his debut with the team co-owned by Ricky Carmichael and Carey Hart; he switched from Red Bull KTM in the offseason.
Rookie Jason Anderson (Husqvarna) and Trey Canard (Honda) rounded out the podium, with Ryan Dungey and Short rounding out the top five.
KTM rider Jessy Nelson took the 250SX win in one of Saturday evening’s prelims.
Round two from Phoenix occurs next week.
