RCR employee charged with selling stolen firesuits on eBay

An employee of Richard Childress Racing has reportedly been arrested and charged with larceny for allegedly stealing four firesuits from the team and attempting to sell them on eBay.

According to the Lexington (N.C.) Dispatch, Kenneth Lane Wilkes, 65, was arrested last Friday and charged with one count of felony larceny by an employee.

Wilkes has since been released on $10,000 unsecured bond, pending trial. He’s scheduled for his first court appearance on Feb. 14.

The newspaper reported that Wilkes allegedly tried to sell three crewman fire suits and one driver firesuit on the online site. It was not revealed which of RCR’s drivers were victimized of their firesuit.

According to Davidson County (N.C.) Sheriff David Grice, the four suits were valued at a combined $6,000, including $3,000 for the driver’s suit.

Grice said he was unable to say if Wilkes has been fired, nor what job role Wilkes had at RCR, which is located in Welcome, N.C.

RCR officials have not made any comment about the matter.
