Add World Champions Mercedes AMG Petronas to the list of teams who have confirmed their unveil date of their new challenger.
The W06, the successor to the title-winning and basically all-conquering W05, will launch two weeks from yesterday on Sunday, Feb. 1 in Jerez.
Mercedes-Benz motorsport head Toto Wolff said the team cannot afford to rest on its laurels, and seems ready to unveil a similarly stout chassis after another offseason of development.
“The workload this winter has been as great as ever,” Wolff said in a team release. “Where last year we were preparing for an all-new formula of racing, we are now faced with the big challenge of making the next step in our development.
“We know that we went into the winter with a target on our backs for the other teams – and we are certain that our rivals will be competitive from the opening race in Melbourne.
“So we have to focus on every detail if we want to build any advantage this year and that is is what we have done.”
On a similar note, for the testing at Jerez that follows, Nico Rosberg will drive days one and three of the test with two-time and reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton taking over for days two and four.
