Report: Haas to acquire Marussia factory

Gene Haas’ F1 team has found its European base, with Autosport’s Jon Noble reporting Wednesday that the team will use the former Marussia factory in Banbury.

Haas told Noble in 2014, “We’ll probably have to have something where we can at least work on the cars. Primarily everything is going to be made in North Carolina.

“The engines and stuff will go there, and the finished cars will then be shipped to some location [in Europe] for transport to the races, or the European races.”

The team will also have its U.S. base in Charlotte, which has been long established as Haas’ company’s headquarters.

Meanwhile rumors that Haas could also be acquiring Marussia’s equipment, in a potential last-ditch effort to make the 2015 grid, appear wide of the mark.

Rather than rushing, Haas is set to continue with plans for a 2016 race debut of the Ferrari-powered effort.
