F1: Force India will skip first preseason test in Jerez

Sahara Force India has retreated from previous plans to run its 2014 car at the first Formula One preseason test in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain (Feb. 1-4), and will not make an appearance there at all.

The team will instead concentrate on getting their all-new 2015 car – the Mercedes-powered VJM08 – prepared for its debut in the second preseason test (Feb. 19-22) at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

A tweet from the team mentioned that “learning opportunities would have been limited” with the old car in Jerez:

The team recently held its official 2015 launch in Mexico City, and NBCSN was there to speak with drivers Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg. In his interview (which occurred before Force India decided to skip Jerez altogether), Perez said the Jerez test was more of a “get the bugs out” affair and didn’t think the team would lose out much with the VJM08 not being on track then.
