Bristol Motor Speedway seeks fans to design historic trophy

Many NASCAR fans like college football, just like many college football fans like NASCAR.

Bristol Motor Speedway is reaching out to both groups in one of the most intriguing contests we’ve seen in a long time.

Even though the actual event won’t be until Sept. 10, 2016, fans have less than a month to come up with a design for the winner’s trophy for the first college football game to be played at Bristol.

The “Battle At Bristol” will pit the University of Tennessee against the Virginia Tech. And with the track’s capacity at 153,000 seats, the matchup between the rivals has the potential to result in the biggest crowd to see a college football game.

(The University of Michigan holds the current mark, 115,109, set Sept. 7, 2013 when the Wolverines defeated Notre Dame 41-30. Michigan holds the record for the five largest crowds in college football history.)

The winning team will receive the trophy designed by the fan that wins the contest.

And the fan whose design is chosen will receive tickets to this year’s summer night race at BMS, as well as other prizes.
