Canadian Lance Stroll, a member of Ferrari’s Driver Academy who was named to an FIA European F3 seat last week, looks to have a new championship under his belt.

Stroll has unofficially clinched the Toyota Racing Series title in the winter, with a podium finish in Round 5 in Manfeild Autocourse in New Zealand. The race was won by American driver Santino Ferrucci (results here).

The TRS is generally a hotbed for young open-wheel talent to race during the winter months in North America and Europe.

Here’s a Facebook post from the Toyota Racing New Zealand page:

So we have our champion, however unofficially and provisionally the standings may be right now: Canadian Lance Stroll, 16, has taken an unassailable lead by finishing third in that race, bringing his championship points tally to 831. Brandon Maisano (fifth in that race and new total of 722) makes in an M2 Competition 1-2, moving ahead of Arjun Maini whose unlucky form in that race (19th) drops him to third on 722 points. Santino Ferrucci‘s race win lifts him to fourth on 716. pictured left-right Lance Stroll, Santino Ferrucci and Sam Macleod at the podium presentation after this morning’s race.
