One of the highlights of the open-wheel race season is the annual Road Racing Drivers Club dinner the Thursday night of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend.
Every year, RRDC president Bobby Rahal welcomes and hosts a racing legend for an evening of laughs and storytelling that could, if there wasn’t a time limit, go all night.
And having Bobby Unser as this year’s honoree for this year’s dinner would almost guarantee it could go on for the entirety of the Long Beach weekend.
The three-time Indianapolis 500 champion joins brother Al getting honored this year. Al Unser will be honored at Legends Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May.
“Uncle Bobby,” meanwhile should be worth the price of admission on his own.
Others such as Jim Hall, Mario Andretti and Roger Penske have been honored previously and this year is Unser’s turn.
More details are here from the RRDC website. It’s a pricey evening, but well worth it if you’re a veteran attendee.
