IndyCar: Happy 20th birthday to Ganassi rising star Sage Karam

Prior to Ryan Hunter-Reay’s news late Thursday afternoon of a new arrival in his family, there was already one birthday we were planning on noting today.

Sage Karam (far right, at Mardi Gras), who will make his second career Verizon IndyCar Series start and first as a member of Chip Ganassi Racing in the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, turns 20 today.

The 2013 Indy Lights champion starred in his IndyCar debut in last year’s Indianapolis 500, and has also made some impressive drives in a handful of TUDOR United SportsCar Championship appearances aboard one of CGR’s Riley-Ford Daytona Prototypes.

He’s also earned the moniker “SK$” as a nickname.

Note Mike Hull’s picture here, above. The team managing director tweeted a photo of a transporter bearing Karam’s likeness, and it also includes his longtime sponsors Comfort Revolution and Big Machine Records.

As one keen-eyed observer, Chris (better known as @AndHesOnIt on Twitter), noted, this may be a sign of things to come relating to the rest of the season for Karam and the fourth CGR entry. Right now, the No. 8 GE LED Chevrolet is confirmed just for St. Petersburg.
