Jean-Eric Vergne has set his sights on claiming his first win in the FIA Formula E series at the home race of his team, Andretti, in Miami later this month.
Vergne moved into Formula E at the end of last year after losing his Formula 1 seat at Toro Rosso, and is now combining his Andretti commitments with a reserve role at Scuderia Ferrari.
The Frenchman will race for the American team once again at the next ePrix in Miami on March 14, and explained to the series’ official website that winning the team’s home race would feel very special indeed.
“I think it will be amazing,” Vergne said. “First of all racing in America is something very special and it’s going to be kind of a home race.
“To win in Miami for Andretti would be a fantastic achievement and I’m rooting for this result.”
Vergne currently leads the Formula E FanBoost standings, with the top three drivers receiving one five-second power boost of 40bhp for the race.
“FanBoost is great first of all for the fans,” Vergne said. “It’s a great opportunity for them to show support for a driver.
“For the drivers, winning a race using FanBoost gives power to the fans and it would make me really proud to give something back for the number of votes cast. Thank you to the fans for their votes so far and hopefully we can have the same opportunity again in Miami.”
Andretti confirmed today that Vergne will be partnered in Miami by ex-Toro Rosso driver Scott Speed, who steps in for Marco Andretti.
