Lotus F1 Team has added Hong Kong driver Adderly Fong to its development driver roster. He’ll do simulator work and attend some Grands Prix.
Fong’s recent experience includes winning last year’s Audi R8 LMS Cup championship, making his debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two years of GP3 (where he has failed to score a point) and his free practice one debut in last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with Sauber.
“This is a great opportunity to further my racing career; I’ll be able to learn how an F1 team operates during race weekends as an integral part of the team and these invaluable experiences are going to lay the foundations of my future development as an F1 driver,” Fong said in a team release. “I am happy but I am not going to get carried away, for this is only the first of many steps.”
Fong joins the previously announced Carmen Jorda in a test and development role, with last year’s GP2 champion Jolyon Palmer on board as reserve driver.
