Preparations for this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix are set to continue in the second free practice session at the Sepang International Circuit on Friday, with Nico Rosberg hoping to double up after topping FP1 earlier today.

The German driver led the Ferrari duo of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel at the top of the timesheets, but his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton was less fortunate, suffering an engine failure that limited him to just four laps.

The team now faces a race against time to get the Briton out in FP2, with the lost track time sure to put him on the back foot in the fight against Rosberg for supremacy this weekend.

FP2 should see the pecking order for the race become clearer, and with the likes of Manor, Fernando Alonso and Valtteri Bottas all finding their feet after setbacks in the past few weeks, there is plenty to watch out for.

Fabio Quartararo won the Catalan Grand Prix, recapturing the MotoGP points lead and his championship momentum Sunday with his third victory of the season.

Quartararo, who opened the season with his first two career victories in the premier series, took his first checkered flag in two months by winning at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya aboard his Petronas Yamaha SRT.

The French rider opened an eight-point lead (108-100) over Joan Mir, who finished second Sunday. Alex Rins was third.

After winning the previous race, Maverick Vinales slipped to 18 points behind Quartararo after a ninth-place finish.

Andrea Dovizioso was the points leader entering the race but crashed his Ducati in the second turn and placed last. Dovizioso fell three spots to fourth in the championship rankings, 24 points behind Fabio Quartararo in MotoGP.
