MotoGP: Marquez destroys COTA track record in qualifying

Two-time defending MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez shattered his old track record in qualifying for this weekend’s Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, by more than six tenths of a second ahead of Sunday’s Round 2 of the season.

Marquez’s best time of 2:02.135 beat his previous lap set last year, 2:02.773. He’ll ride Sunday on the No. 93 Repsol Honda.

Andrea Dovizioso will line up second on the No. 4 Ducati, after qualifying at a 2:02.474.

The pair of MoviStar Yamahas, Jorge Lorenzo and Qatar winner Valentino Rossi, will line up third and fourth with Cal Crutchlow completing the top five.
