BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The fourth round of the Verizon IndyCar Series’ season, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, will be LIVE on NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra from 3 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. CT and local time, this afternoon. The Live Extra stream link is linked here for participating cable providers.
This weekend has already seen a mix of weather conditions. Friday was perfect, Saturday wasn’t as qualifying turned into a “beat the rain” game – which IndyCar did – and Sunday looks good.
It’s expected to be a different race than the only other road course race of the year at NOLA Motorsports Park. Strategy is always key in these races and traditionally there are few yellow flags, and extended periods of green flag running.
Either of the front row starters, Helio Castroneves or Will Power, seeks to become the fourth winner in as many races to open the season. But Scott Dixon looks to make it back-to-back on the season after winning at Long Beach, and Ryan Hunter-Reay will try to win his third Barber race in a row from a disappointing 18th on the grid.
Today’s race at Barber Motorsports Park is scheduled for 90 laps around the 2.3-mile, 17-turn road course. As mentioned above, strategy is often one of the talking points at this race.
This is the sixth edition of the race, having first began in 2010.
Leigh Diffey returns to anchor his first IndyCar race of the year, with Steve Matchett also alongside for his first IndyCar race this season. Townsend Bell rounds out the NBCSN booth trio.
Marty Snider, Kelli Stavast, Kevin Lee and Robin Miller continue in the pits.
Again, that’s 3 p.m ET/2 p.m. CT for the coverage on NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra.
