A quick numerology update for next month’s Indianapolis 500: Oriol Servia will double his car number year on year, confirming to IndyCar.com he’ll switch from 16 to 32 in Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s second car.
“It’s because I’ve wanted No. 32 since 1999 because I won the Indy Lights championship that year with No. 32,” Servia told IndyCar.com.
“Every team I’ve been with always has had a reason to not have No. 32, so finally I was happy that Bobby (Rahal) said, ‘OK, let’s do it.’ Plus, the first car that won the Indy 500 was No. 32.”
RLL’s second car had been No. 16 each of the last two years. Servia was No. 17 with RLL in 2009 and No. 16 last year.
