Bottas unconcerned about threat from Toro Rosso

MONTMELO – Valtteri Bottas does not believe that Scuderia Toro Rosso will pose much of a threat to Williams during tomorrow’s Spanish Grand Prix despite qualifying just ahead of its drivers who will start on the third row of the grid.

Bottas enjoyed his best qualifying of the 2015 season in Spain on Saturday, finishing fourth in Q3 ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen.

Speaking to NBCSN after the session, Bottas said that he was pleased with the result and did not think he could have qualified inside the top three.

“It was good qualifying I think, a good lap,” Bottas said. “Managed to get a good couple of laps in Q3. Pretty much the maximum I think.”

In spite of Toro Rosso’s good performance, Bottas does not expect either Sainz or Verstappen to be a threat in the race on Sunday.

“We do expect them not to be really a threat tomorrow,” he said. “We think we have better race pace than them.

“They have made a good step forward, but I think in the race we have been better. What we saw from Friday’s data, we think we should be clear of them.”

The Spanish Grand Prix is live on NBCSN and Live Extra from 7:30am ET on Sunday.
