The on-track action for the Monaco Grand Prix kicks off a day earlier than at other races, with the first two practice sessions being held on Thursday.

After some rain overnight, the streets of the principality do remain damp in places, and although they should dry out across the course of the 90-minute first free practice session, drivers will have to take care in the early stages of the day.

Following his victory at the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks ago, Nico Rosberg heads into this weekend’s race with plenty of momentum. The German driver has won the past two Monaco Grands Prix, and a third would see him take another big step towards the championship lead.

However, he’ll have to beat Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton first. With a 20-point advantage at the top of the standings, the defending world champion comes to Monaco seeking his first win in the principality since 2008, having finished on the podium just once in the past six editions.

That said, with a new Mercedes contract under his belt, the Briton is also likely to be feeling relaxed heading into the race weekend as he bids to emulate his hero Ayrton Senna by taming the Monegasque streets.
