Following the rest day on Friday, the Formula 1 field will get back out on track in the third practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix ahead of qualifying later today.

Track time has been limited so far this weekend after the second practice session was hit by rain, costing the drivers a golden opportunity to get to grips with the new super-soft compound tire and plan out their race strategies.

As a result, FP3 has become crucial in the dynamics of this weekend, and is set to be a very busy session indeed.

Lewis Hamilton heads into the race weekend with a 20-point lead at the top of the drivers’ championship over Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, but has not won the Monaco Grand Prix since 2008.

It is Rosberg who is the form driver around the streets of the principality, claiming pole position and the race win for the last two years. A third consecutive victory in Monaco on Sunday would put the German in a very exclusive club – Graham Hill, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna are the only drivers to have claimed a hat-trick in such fashion.

It may only be practice, but given that this is the final chance for the drivers to get in some laps ahead of qualifying later today, FP3 is set to be a very interesting and busy session.
