After seeing championship leader Lewis Hamilton top the timesheets in FP1 and FP2 on Thursday, Sebastian Vettel sent out a warning to Mercedes by finishing fastest for Ferrari in final practice on Saturday morning.

Ferrari has been snapping at the heels of Mercedes for much of the season, but Vettel has failed to pose too much of a challenge to either Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg since his shock win at the Malaysian Grand Prix at the end of March.

However, Vettel edged out Rosberg for P1 in the dying stages of FP3, setting the stage for a thrilling fight between Ferrari and Mercedes in qualifying today.

After rain limited the teams’ running in the second practice session on Thursday, FP3 was a busy session with plenty of drivers pushing hard to try and get in the right rhythm ahead of qualifying.

However, Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen pushed too hard, sustaining damage after run-ins with the wall that has left Ferrari and Toro Rosso with plenty of work to do to get their cars ready for qualifying.

With the likes of Jenson Button, Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr running strongly inside the top ten in FP3, it appears that qualifying could be very unpredictable as the pecking order gets shaken up once again.

Given that overtaking is easier said than done around the streets of Monaco, qualifying could be all-important in deciding who wins the race on Sunday.
