Two more drivers will join Simona de Silvestro in making their FIA Formula E Championship debuts in London next week, in the form of one ex-Formula 1 driver and one veteran test driver who never got his shot.
Sakon Yamamoto, who spent parts of three seasons in F1 with Super Aguri, Spyker and HRT, will rejoin Aguri Suzuki’s Amlin Aguri team, in place of Antonio Felix da Costa. Da Costa has a prior commitment in DTM, and thus Yamamoto will be the second stand-in driver for him this year (Takuma Sato raced for da Costa in China at the season opener).
Meanwhile, per a Motorsport.com report, Oliver Turvey will make his debut at NEXTEV TCR, alongside championship leader Nelson Piquet Jr. Piquet has had Ho-Pin Tung, Antonio Garcia and Charles Pic as his teammates this season. Turvey is fresh off a dynamic drive at last week’s 24 Hours of Le Mans with Jota Sport, helping the team finish second in the LMP2 class.
These three driver debuts should bring the field of drivers up to 33 who have competed in the inaugural season of the championship, although only 20 start each race.
