Since hosting the first ever Formula 1 world championship race back in 1950, Silverstone has become one of the most iconic and historic venues in the history of the sport, and the spiritual home of motorsport in the United Kingdom.

Fast forward to 2015, and Lewis Hamilton is making his own history at Silverstone. The British driver goes in search of a third victory on home soil this weekend, and will be aiming to extend his lead at the top of the drivers’ championship.

Hamilton currently enjoys a ten point advantage over Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, but it is the German who carries the momentum heading to Silverstone after three wins in the last four races.

Both are former winners in Britain, and both will be keen to get the weekend off to a good start during the first free practice session on Friday.

The British Grand Prix is perhaps best known for its unique atmosphere as fans come out in their tens of thousands to cheer on Hamilton and fellow Brits Jenson Button and Will Stevens.

Although neither Button nor Stevens stand much chance of scoring points this weekend, both can be sure of some hearty support at Silverstone as 140,000 fans are expected to head to Northamptonshire for the race.
