Indy Lights: Team Moore Racing announces it will shut its doors

Tough news from the North American open-wheel landscape as Team Moore Racing, a longtime competitor in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series, has announced Thursday it will close its doors.

Mark Moore’s team has been active in the series for eight years, and had drivers such as James Hinchcliffe, Gustavo Yacaman, Conor Daly and Peter Dempsey as part of their lineup.

The team ran a partial 2014 season with Zack Meyer, but has not answered the bell in 2015 with the arrival of the new Dallara IL-15 chassis. Mexican driver Alfonso “Picho” Toledano was announced for a partial 2015 campaign, but driver nor team never materialized.

It’s an unfortunate blow for the team and its staff of course, but also for the series itself, which didn’t have many teams to begin with heading into this year. Moore, Schmidt Peterson, Andretti Autosport and Belardi Auto Racing made up the majority of the field last year.

Moore’s absence means Bryan Herta Autosport and Fan Force United are 2014 teams not carrying over into 2015. However the addition of Carlin, Juncos Racing and 8Star Motorsports have filled the stead.

Indy Lights has an 11-car field entered for this weekend at the Milwaukee Mile; Max Chilton returns at Carlin after missing Toronto, and will make his first oval start. Otherwise the field is as its been.
