Lewis Hamilton kicked off the Hungarian Grand Prix in style on Friday morning by topping a somewhat bizarre first free practice session.

While it was business as usual for Mercedes at the front with Hamilton P1 and Nico Rosberg in second place, the real talking point came courtesy of Force India’s Sergio Perez following a frightening flip in the second half of the session.

Thankfully, Perez walked away unharmed, and is now ready to take part in the remainder of the race weekend, starting with second practice on Friday afternoon.

Hamilton enters the race weekend at the Hungaroring with history in sight as he goes in search of a record-breaking fifth victory in Hungary.

The British driver currently enjoys a 17 point lead over Rosberg at the top of the drivers’ championship, and a sixth victory of the season would give him a comfortable buffer to take into the summer break.
