Bahrain will play host to an additional round in the GP2 and GP3 championships in November as a late replacement for the cancelled races in Germany.
The collapse of the German Grand Prix earlier this year not only reduced the Formula 1 schedule from 20 races to 19, but also resulted in the loss of the supporting GP2 and GP3 rounds.
To make up for this, an additional round has been confirmed for November 19-21 in support of the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Bahrain International Circuit.
“I am pleased to confirm that we have added Sakhir to our 2015 GP2 and GP3 calendar in November,” series CEO Bruno Michel said.
“Ever since the announcement of the cancellation of the German event, we have been working hard to try and add a round for our series.
“It was important that we could keep the costs down for the teams, but also to find a venue that was an added value for the drivers.
“Bahrain International Circuit was the best option. Not only is it a Formula 1 track, but it makes perfect sense to have it back-to-back with the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.”
