Steiner confirms 10 drivers in play for Haas F1 seats; wants “known quantities” (VIDEO)

One report has said there’s five drivers on the shortlist for seats at Haas F1 Team. One of the likely candidates for one of the two race seats, Jean-Eric Vergne, has said the list is down to three.

Team principal Guenther Steiner has set the record straight in his own words, in a video released Monday regarding the team’s eventual driver lineup.

Steiner said the team is talking with 10 people, but said it’s difficult to know who is truly available since there haven’t been any real dominoes fall yet in the Formula 1 silly season – the status of Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari is the season’s tipping point.

Steiner did make two declarations in the two-plus minute video.

“We would like to make a decision by end of summer,” he said.

And while he was thankful all interested candidates have expressed positive enthusiasm about the team’s direction, he also confirmed the need for known quantities in the driver lineup.

“Nobody was like, ‘This is new we don’t want to go there.’ It’s, ‘Tell me what you are doing.’ We need some known quantities.”

“End of summer” could imply the end of this month or perhaps mid-September, prior to or at the conclusion of the European season on Sept. 6 at Monza, as to when Haas will make its decision.
