MP Motorsport driver Daniel de Jong has been taken to hospital for a full assessment after crashing hard during the GP2 Series feature race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday.

Heading into the fast, sweeping left-hander Blanchimont at an estimated 190mph, de Jong made contact with DAMS driver Pierre Gasly and lost control of his car.

De Jong continued straight on into the tire wall at Blanchimont, embedding his car into the barrier. Marshals were quick to get on the scene and medical staff were quickly called.

The race was red flagged by officials to allow de Jong to be attended to and for the tire barrier to be rebuilt.

GP2 confirmed via its official Twitter account that de Jong was “fine and in a good mood” following the accident, and that he has been taken to hospital for further assessment.
