The 2016 Dakar Rally, which was set to feature stages in Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, will not include Peru, event organizers announced today.
In a statement, the Dakar organizers agreed with Peruvian authorities and decided to cancel the Inca Desafio, which was scheduled for September 11-13. But it also affects the stages for the Peruvian route of the Dakar, previously announced in April.
Severe and potentially violent weather, set to come by way of the El Niño weather phenomenon, is expected to play an impact on the region.
A final decision on an alternate route will be announced in September.
