SONOMA, Calif. – Oriol Servia speaks to NBCSN’s Jon Beekhuis during today’s qualifying, and discusses the difficulty in dealing with the loss of Justin Wilson, how he got the call to drive Wilson’s No. 25 Honda at Sonoma and how the outpouring of support has shown the extent of Wilson’s character.
“I’ll start by saying this was respectable. I was pretty embarrassing yesterday,” Servia told Beekhuis. “These cars are so hard to drive. I’m not in my best shape. I obviously wasn’t ready for this race. Today felt a lot better. Today I’m a race driver, yesterday I was a passenger.
“It has been a huge emotional roller coaster. When it’s someone like Justin who touches you, a pure soul, it makes no sense and you struggle to make sense of it. I got the call to come. I didn’t know what to think.
“But I know he’s laughing at me (at my performance). Hopefully, I make him proud.”
