Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza had the makings of a highly entertaining race after a jumbled up qualifying the previous day.
Lewis Hamilton may have been on pole position for the 11th time in 2015, but with the Ferrari duo of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel eager to impress from third and fourth place on the grid, it was far from being a foregone conclusion.
Ultimately though, it was the same again for Mercedes. Hamilton was dominant, completing a weekend grand slam – pole position, fastest lap, race win, led every lap, topped every session – in emphatic fashion.
However, Mercedes came under scrutiny in the moments following the race after it was revealed that both Hamilton and teammate Nico Rosberg were running their tire pressures below the required minimum level.
Both drivers escaped penalty, allowing Hamilton to keep his race win and extend his lead over Rosberg to 53 points after the German driver retired with three laps remaining.
