A report from the Monterey Herald out on Tuesday indicates that the International Speedway Corp., which had been poised to take over operations of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, will not make a proposal to do so. Monterey County supervisor Dave Potter confirmed that news to the Herald.

ISC had been in a 90-day due diligence phase with the track before any takeover; ISC has not made a statement regarding this race track. SCRAMP currently operates the track.

There was no movement on either front at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last weekend, which hosted the Pirelli World Challenge and Mazda Road to Indy season finales.

However, a statement from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was released Wednesday following a Tuesday meeting of the SCRAMP board of directors.

The following is a statement from Gregg Curry, Board President of the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), regarding the decision by the International Speedway Corporation (ISC), of Daytona Beach, Fla., to decline submitting a formal proposal to take over operations and management of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca:

“Our intention from the beginning, and remains the same today, is for SCRAMP to retain the concession agreement with the county and continue our 58-year management and operation of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. We have been given the opportunity to submit a new proposal and look forward to submitting it to the county for review in a fair and open process.”
