When you’re a first responder, there’s nothing better than learning from the best.
First responders in Brentwood, Tenn., and St. Louis, Mo., will receive first-hand instruction in the coming days from members of IndyCar’s famed Holmatro Safety Team.
Made up of nearly 30 physicians, nurses, paramedics and firefighters/EMTs who attend every IndyCar event, the safety team responds to all on-track incidents to ensure the safety and care of drivers and team personnel.
The HST will offer its expertise in handling racetrack incidents – including crashes and medical treatment – and how such training can be applied to situations first responders face in their occupations, including traffic crashes and the like.
Holmatro member and IndyCar director of medical services, Dr. Michael Olinger, will discuss medical trauma to those in Brentwood on Sept. 25-26.
His counterpart, Holmatro physician Dr. Andrew Stevens, will do the same to those in St. Louis on Oct. 1-2.
Safety Team members will also be on hand at both presentations to train first responders on extrication techniques from newer vehicles, as safety features can sometimes lead to hazards for those responders.
