Indianapolis natives eligible to participate in ‘People’s 500' art project

If you live in Indianapolis, are at least 21 year old and willing to fill out a survey, you may have a chance to drive a Pace Car around Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the near future.

IMS has announce a new interactive art project with Big Car Collaborative called “People’s 500" as part of the celebration of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 next May.

Under the direction of Californa-based artist Jesse Sugarmann, 100 Indy natives will be selected to drive a pace car around IMS on Oct. 17 and 18 while being filmed and photographed for an exhibit that will open next May as part of an interactive art installation in Big Car’s new gallery in Indianapolis.

“This partnership with a local gallery and a world-renowned artist will capture the spirit that drives the Indianapolis 500 and share it with guests from across the country and globe,” said Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles in a release. “I encourage Hoosiers to submit an application to participate and take a lap around our iconic track ahead of such a monumental milestone in our history.”

Applications must be completed by Oct. 5.
