Although it had been originally scheduled for April, next year’s Australian Grand Prix will move back to March, the event announced today.
The 2016 Formula 1 season will still kick off at Melbourne, and will now run on the weekend of March 17-20. It had been scheduled for March 31-April 3, two weeks later.
A statement from the event organizers read: “The change of the date is part of a number of changes on a provisional calendar issued by the World Motor Sport Council.”
This will have the knock-on effect, besides bringing the season to an earlier start, of forcing teams to have their cars finalized by early in March rather than the end of the month.
Further changes from the calendar announced in July may be coming, per the World Motor Sport Council.
