NHRA: Rain washes out Friday qualifying at Maple Grove

Like their soggy NASCAR counterparts 110 miles to the south, rain forced the National Hot Rod Association to cancel Friday’s first day of on-track action at the Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa.

A steady rain began in the morning and is expected to continue through the rest of the day, according to an NHRA news release.

Drivers are hopeful they’ll be able to race Saturday and in Sunday’s eliminations, including Top Fuel points leader Antron Brown, who won’t be surprised if some national records fall – weather permitting, of course.

“This track is going to be super mean,” said Brown, who is seeking his first win at Reading, a track known as one of the fastest in the sport. “It’s going to have a razor edge.

“You have to have your power right and your combination right so you can get off the starting line. When the conditions are that good, you have to bring enough power and bring the clutch to the party to make everything happen.”

Because of the rainout, Friday’s two pro class qualifying sessions will not be made up, leaving just two qualifying rounds on Saturday (11:15 am and 2:15 pm ET).
