Scott Pye is probably best known to most U.S. fans/non-Australian V8 Supercars aficionados as the driver that took over the DJR Team Penske entry when Marcos Ambrose voluntarily removed himself from the cockpit earlier this year.
Pye got back in the headlines for the wrong reasons following a heavy accident during Sunday’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, the marquee event of the V8SC season.
An update from DJR Team Penske managing director Ryan Story indicated a mechanical failure on the car may have occurred, which pitched Pye into the wall in the final hour of the race.
“The whole DJR Team Penske crew were devastated as we watched Scott’s accident from the pits,” Story said in a team statement. “The team’s performance this weekend, led by Scott has been outstanding, so it is very disappointing to see him crash out in such a way. Our initial technical inspection suggests the car may have broken a steering arm on the run down into Reid Park pitching Scott into the wall.
“He is battered and bruised of course, and we suspect he may have broken one or two ribs. Dr Carl is supervising some checks at the Orange Base Hospital so we know he is in great hands. We wish Scott the speediest of recoveries.”
A further update last night though indicated Pye has been released from hospital, sore but not broken after the impact. Pye also offered an update on his own.
Great news! Scott has been cleared from hospital. He is sore and bruised but no broken bones. Thank you all for your love and well wishes

Considering there was a heavy impact in qualifying for Chaz Mostert that left him injured, it’s good to hear Pye has been cleared of any serious injuries at the track.
