Scott Stall disqualifies himself from Daytona Sportbike win

Stall

Scott Stall and his team didn’t intend to win.

But they did. Then things became awkward.

Stall, driving for a John Anderson owned team, disqualified himself in victory lane after winning the feature Sportbike event of the 32nd Fall Cycle Scene program at Daytona International Speedway.

Stall admitted that his race-winning bike was illegal and that the team had only intended the race as a test session. The bike was deemed to have illegal rims and tires.

“I just wanted to use this race as a practice run to see how my setup worked,” Stall said of his No. 132 Yamaha to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. “I knew this bike was illegal, so I wanted to say it right then and there.”

The win came in a seven-lap sprint race around Daytona’s 3.51-mile road course that saw a dramatic finish among six bikes.

But Stall having a chance to win the race took the team off guard.

“We never planned this,” Anderson said. “I signed Scott up for this race just for track time and that was it. We never planned for this to happen.

“When he came to the pits and saw he was first, we didn’t know what to do. We had never planned to take this bike to tech.”

A second podium finishers photograph had to be taken. In first was Xavier Zayat, then two-time Daytona 200 winner Danny Eslick and Jason Farrell.
