Kevin Magnussen has had his first taste of a Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 car on Tuesday, in the first day of a two-day test at Circuit de Catalunya.
The 23-year-old Dane is testing alongside fellow youngsters Oliver Turvey and Mitch Evans this week, as all three get their first taste of a proper LMP1 car. The McLaren reserve driver will not be retained into 2016 and seeks a return to racing after a year on the sidelines.
“It was really good. It is the first race car I drive for about six or seven months and it’s an amazing car with amazing power,” Magnussen said, via Porsche.
“It is easy to feel that this probably is the most advanced race car in the world at the moment. I can’t wait to get back in.”
Magnussen also did the usual compare-and-contrast between the sports car and an F1 car.
“I have a few things to work on, getting on top of braking, especially. As you can’t see the front wheels here you really don’t know when you’re locking up, so this is something to get used to and also visibility is a bit less compared to a single seater.
“So a few things to get used to but the first impression is really good and I enjoyed it a lot.”
