What’s wrong with a little 165-170 mph action in an Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Dallara IL15-Mazda going into Turn 1 at Phoenix International Raceway? Absolutely nothing.
Andretti Autosport’s Shelby Blackstock has tested there this week and posted this teaser video, below, of how the Indy Lights cars will look going away into Turn 1.
Blackstock, a five-year veteran of the Mazda Road to Indy who has raced in all three rungs (Indy Lights, Pro Mazda, USF2000), will be back with Andretti for his second season in Indy Lights this season.
Indy Lights also makes its return to PIR next year along with the Verizon IndyCar Series on April 2; it will mark the first Indy Lights race at the track since the-then Infiniti Pro Series raced there in 2005, a race won by of all people, Jon Herb.
Fabio Quartararo won the Catalan Grand Prix, recapturing the MotoGP points lead and his championship momentum Sunday with his third victory of the season.
Quartararo, who opened the season with his first two career victories in the premier series, took his first checkered flag in two months by winning at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya aboard his Petronas Yamaha SRT.
The French rider opened an eight-point lead (108-100) over Joan Mir, who finished second Sunday. Alex Rins was third.
After winning the previous race, Maverick Vinales slipped to 18 points behind Quartararo after a ninth-place finish.
Andrea Dovizioso was the points leader entering the race but crashed his Ducati in the second turn and placed last. Dovizioso fell three spots to fourth in the championship rankings, 24 points behind Fabio Quartararo in MotoGP.
