Roberto Merhi’s arrival at Manor came as little surprise following his stint as Caterham’s reserve driver last year, but he spent the beginning of the season working to get his weight down being one of the taller drivers on the grid.

Despite teammate Will Stevens having as much as a 15kg advantage at times, Merhi managed to match his teammate, taking the team’s best result of the season at Silverstone by finishing 12th.

However, there was little of note from Merhi. His decision to also race in Formula Renault 3.5 to keep fighting at the front of the pack was a big error as he did more harm than good to his reputation with a disastrous campaign. His final hurrah in Abu Dhabi proved just how little he actually improved this season.

Merhi does win the best hair stakes in F1 for 2015, though. Sorry Lewis.

Like his Spanish countrymen Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz Jr., Merhi’s hair was among the highlights of his season. His performances on-track really weren’t.

It was always going to be difficult to glean too much from a driver racing only against his teammate at the back of the grid, and in a year-old car. To his credit, Merhi kept things clean and finished all but one of his starts. He ceded to Alexander Rossi when the American’s opportunity arose for five races.

Finishing 12th and ahead of teammate Will Stevens at Silverstone was the year’s best performance in an otherwise forgettable campaign.
