Sensory overload: When a fan attends his first NHRA drag race (video)

The phrase “old is new again” extends to drag racing, as well.

The good folks at PowerNationTV.com last week resurrected a video from a couple of years back showing a fan attending his first NHRA race.

This video is as funny now as it was back then – and maybe even to the rookie NHRA fan who probably didn’t quite know what he was getting into.

Check out his reaction first when he gets a whiff of the overpowering smell of nitromethane, which fuels the 10,000 horsepower behemoths.

Then check how he jumps. when a pair of Top Fuel dragsters leave the starting line.

Then there’s the noise as the cars pass him by, leading him to quickly reach into his pocket to try and fish out a pair of ear plugs that a friend likely told him to bring with.

Yes, drag racing is a sport of the senses – sight, sound, smell and more – and this new fan gets a full brunt of the sensory experience.
