Sauber has confirmed that its new Formula 1 car, the C35, will not debut until the second pre-season test in Barcelona on February 29.
Like many teams, Sauber’s development was impacted by the late change to the pre-season schedule following the revision of the 2016 calendar.
The provisional F1 calendar slated the first race of the year in Australia for the beginning of April, only for a later revision to bring it back to its usual mid-March slot.
This had a knock-on effect on pre-season testing and brought both sessions in Barcelona forward by a couple of weeks, with the first planned for February 22.
A spokesperson from Sauber confirmed to MotorSportsTalk that the team would not be debuting its new car until the second pre-season test in Barcelona. However, the team will debut its new livery on the C34 car at the first test.
Sauber enjoyed an upturn in fortunes in 2015 as the all-new line-up for Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr scored 36 points to leave the Swiss team ninth in the constructors’ championship at the end of the year ahead of McLaren and Manor.
