Carlin’s Ed Jones followed up his podium finish at the Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai in the 991 class, a second place in his sports car debut, with the fastest times Tuesday back in his usual vehicle, the No. 11 Carlin Dallara IL-15 Mazda in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires.
Jones led the field of 11 cars during the two sessions of testing at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Dubai-based Brit has spent a lot of time in Miami and has wasted no time returning to the top of the timesheets.
Jones’ time in the afternoon was the fastest of the day at the Homestead road course, at 1:14.538. Belardi Auto Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist, who’s also tested for Team Pelfrey, ended the day second at 1:14.708.
The balance of the field includes a nice blend of rookies and veterans.
Only Rosenqvist and Santiago Urrutia, the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires champion who’s poised to be announced at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports sooner rather than later, haven’t been announced yet of the 11 drivers who tested.
